Bilan sur la sauvegarde des palmeraies de la Mer Egée<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

Lors de ce colloque, que nous avons organisé avec le concours des chercheurs grecs et l’aide d’une Fondation hellénique, nous avons présenté le Projet Phoenix et les travaux menés en collaboration autour de Phoenix theophrasti dans ce cadre. Nous avons été accueillis par Dimitris NIKOLAOU, qui pilote la conservation du Jardin de Zappeion, situé au centre d’Athènes. Dimitri et son équipe s’efforcent de sauver les palmiers de ce jardin emblématique, face à la prolifération massive du charançon à Athènes (au moins 2000 palmiers abattus à ce jour). Ils collaborent avec une autre équipe, dans le parc voisin du Jardin National.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n

A l’occasion du colloque d’Athènes, nous avons aussi invité des tresseurs de palmes du monastère Aghiou Dionisiou de l’île de Zante (dite aussi Zachintos), où la tradition grecque du Palmsunday se maintient depuis plusieurs siècles. Nous avons offert aux tresseurs grecs quelques exemples de tressages italiens, de la part de l’association des tresseurs de Bordighera, A Parmura.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n

Dr Scott Zona and I welcome original articles concerning almost all aspects of palms. We are particularly interested in travelogue articles, photo features of unusual palm species in their natural habitat (accompanied by short text), articles on ethnobotany etc. and we publish new species. The International Palm Society disburses approximately US$25,000 a year in research grants, usually US$2000-5000 each, and the society thus remains a good source of funding for field work and some types of laboratory work. Details of the research grants may be found under Endowment Fund on the IPS website (www.palms.org<\/a>) where you can also find details of how to submit articles to PALMS. L'étude propose de caractériser par une méthode de morphométrie géométrique éprouvée:<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

Le travail d’inventaire des herbiers de la région Provence Alpes et Côte d’Azur est terminé et son contenu est désormais consultable en ligne. Similaire à l’initiative initiée par Tela Botanica, le Muséum d’Histoire Naturelle d’Aix-en-Provence avait lancé un projet d’inventaire des herbiers présents dans la région Provence Alpes et Côte d’Azur. Celui-ci est achevé et les informations collectées (institutions hébergeant un ou plusieurs herbier(s), nature des collections et état de celles-ci etc.) sont disponibles en ligne sur le site de Tela dans la partie Botanique.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

THOMAS Romain, 'Investigation anatomique au sein de la famille des palmiers: résultats, applications et perspectives'. Cette thèse portant sur l’anatomie comparée des stipes des cinq sous-familles de palmiers, a permis de mettre en évidence que les cinq sous-familles et la plupart des tribus peuvent se différencier sur la base de structures anatomiques (organisation générale de la tige, types faisceaux fibro-vasculaires, nombre de vaisseaux, organisation du parenchyme, type de phytolithes, présence de la différenciation centrifuge de la partie fibreuse…). Les différents modes de croissance sont redéfinis à partir de deux mécanismes: la croissance post-primaire du parenchyme fondamental et la différenciation centrifuge de la partie fibreuse des faisceaux fibro-vasculaires. Celle-ci se manifeste par la formation de nouvelles fibres au niveau de la périphérie de cette partie fibreuse. Ces descriptions sont intégrées dans une base de connaissance élaborée avec le logiciel Xper2 . Il serait particulièrement intéressant de pouvoir, à partir de l’anatomie, apporter des informations paléoenvironnementales complémentaires lors de la découverte de stipes fossiles.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

The project will cover all North Africa Countries (Algeria, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco and Tunisia). The project will be implemented within 2 year timeframe.
