Protection des Palmiers Ornementaux et Spontanés contre l’Invasion Biologique du Charançon Rouge (PROPALMA)<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

Le Projet PROPALMA prend la relève du précédent Projet national italien DIPROPALM (2009-2011), mis en œuvre 5 ans après l’introduction du charançon rouge du palmier (Rhynchophorus ferrugineus) en Italie. Il s’inscrit dans le cadre de l’expansion massive de ce fléau sur le territoire de la péninsule, où les palmiers infestés se comptent à ce jour à plusieurs dizaines de milliers. Outre son impact destructeur sur le paysage, l’infestation représente désormais un enjeu économique significatif, en ce qui concerne le secteur de la production de palmes ornementales en Italie, la gestion des Espaces Verts urbains et son impact sur le tourisme. Les palmeraies autochtones de Chamaerops humilis (Sicile et Sardaigne) sont elles aussi menacées de disparition, ainsi que la palmeraie médiévale de Bordighera.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n

Quelques chiffres<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
Le Projet National Italien de Recherche PROPALMA est financé à hauteur de 400 000 euros. Le traitement préventif d’un palmier est estimé à 200 euros. L’assainissement d’un palmier infesté coûte 400 euros et sa destruction 1000 euros. Au moins 30 000 palmiers ont été abattus en Italie à ce jour, soit un coût de 30 millions d’euros. Il est donc évident que l'investissement dans la recherche n'est pas à la hauteur des enjeux. <\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

Au centre du colloque de Sanemo, la lutte intégrée, laquelle consiste à associer diverses méthodes afin que leur effet se cumule. Voici un bref compte-rendu des avancées qui nous ont semblé les plus prometteuses, dans l'attente d'une éventuelle publication des Actes de ce Séminaire.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n

Endothérapie<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\n
L’endothérapie est appelée à jouer un rôle important dans la lutte intégrée contre le ravageur du palmier. Les expérimentations du thiamethoxam <\/em>(commercialisé sous le nom d'Actara par la firme Syngenta) ont ainsi présenté des taux de mortalité significatifs, dans le cadre des protocoles expérimentaux menés ces dernières années par la Station Phoenix INRA de Elche. L'injection présente par ailleurs un réel avantage en matière d'écologie: la substance reste confinée à l'intérieur du palmier.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

Piégeage<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
Les recherches conduites sur le piégeage contaminant semblent représenter une piste intéressante, en matière de lutte. Elles concernent principalement deux variétés de champignons, Beauveria bassiana<\/em> et Metarhizium anisopliae<\/em>. Ce dernier semble avoir la plus grande efficacité, avec des contaminations allant jusqu’à 100%, qu’il s’agisse des individus adultes ou des œufs. Il faudrait toutefois qu'il s'agisse d'une politique coordonnée de piégeage massif, ce qui est loin d'être le cas aujourd'hui.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

Les statistiques relatives aux palmiers infestés ont montré à ce jour une nette prédilection du ravageur pour l’espèce Phoenix canariensis<\/em>, et plus particulièrement pour les spécimens males (95% des individus infestés). Des études sont en cours afin de rechercher l’existence de mécanismes de résistance chez d'autres palmiers, notamment Washingtonia<\/em>, Dactylifera <\/em>et Chamaerops<\/em>, du type (entre autres) inhibition de la ponte. <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

Diagnostic précoce<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
Les recherches menées en matière de diagnostic olfactif des palmiers infestés ont révélé une réelle efficacité au niveau de l’emploi de chiens dressés à cet usage. Aujourd’hui opérationnel, le procédé pourrait s’appliquer au contrôle des importations. Les travaux relatifs à l’usage du nez électronique, initiés avec Dipropalm, possédaient jusqu’à présent une dimension exploratoire. Un protocole élaboré est désormais mis en œuvre dans le cadre du Projet PROPALMA. Il faudrait désormais que les politiques s'empare de ce deoosier en déshérence, les importations de palmiers étant à la source du problème.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

Repeuplement et Projet Phoenix <\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
L’échec actuel des stratégies de lutte, en Italie comme en Espagne, en Grèce ou en France, dépasse la question des palmiers ornementaux. Il pose désormais un problème conservatoire, en ce qui concerne les palmeraies européennes autochtones (Chamaerops humilis<\/em> et Phoenix theophrasti<\/em>), et les introductions médiévales de Phoenix dactylifera<\/em> (Elche, Bordighera et Palerme). Notre Jardin Expérimental Phoenix œuvre dans ce sens en matière de génotypage et de conservation des semences.  A Bordighera, nous procédons ainsi, depuis 5 ans, à une importante récolte de graines mises en culture dans nos pépinières.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
