Les paysages anthropisés sont des organismes vivants, en perpétuelle évolution. Certains agro-systèmes ont toutefois perduré de l’Antiquité jusqu’à nos jours. C’est le cas des oasis, qui se trouvent pour l’essentiel en Afrique du Nord et au Moyen Orient, et plus marginalement en Asie, en Australie et en Amérique. La plupart des oasis abritent des palmiers-dattiers. Plusieurs ont classées comme sites d’intérêt patrimonial par l’UNESCO. Le palmier dattier a été introduit en Europe au Moyen-âge, en Espagne et en Italie, dans les régions d’Elche et de Bordighera. Ces palmeraies médiévales existent toujours. La palmeraie d’Elche a récemment été classée par l’UNESCO. La palmeraie historique de Bordighera ne fait par contre l’objet d’aucun projet de conservation, et encore moins de réhabilitation. Il ne reste qu’un seul jardin de palmiers dattiers sur le site, devenu Jardin Expérimental dans le cadre d’une initiative privée. Les jardins médiévaux existant en Europe sont pour la plupart des jardins recréés à partir de documents historiques. Le Jardin Expérimental de Bordighera possède donc une valeur patrimoniale exemplaire.<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

Nouvelles de la palmeraie historique de Bordighera<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

La 2nde<\/sup> campagne de restauration de la biodiversité vient de débuter dans le Jardin Expérimental de Bordighera, grâce à un partenariat franco-italien. Elle vise avant tout à la conservation du site. Une quinzaine de palmiers, issus de graines mises en culture il y a 5 ans, ont ainsi été plantés. Les interventions en cours ont aussi pour objectif de créer un écosystème stable autour des palmiers. Elles ont donné lieu à cet effet à diverses introductions de plantes, avec des semis de jachères fleuries associés à l’introduction de plantes bulbeuses, ainsi que de plantes vivaces en bordure des terrasses. Ces interventions ont été préparées pendant l’hiver, avec un paillage du terrain au fur et à mesure de la chute des palmes sèches, puis un léger écobuage destiné à éviter un débroussaillage mécanique. Les protocoles avaient été expérimentés avec succès l’an dernier sur une terrasse de culture. La campagne se poursuivra cet été dans les zones les plus ombragées du terrain, avec des introductions de plantes adaptées à ce genre d’écosystème. Cette campagne de réhabilitation vise par ailleurs à mettre au point des techniques de gestion durable, susceptibles d’être étendues à l’ensemble du site historique du vallon du Sasso.<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Les collaborations en cours à Bordighera concernent les thématiques suivantes, liées à la réhabilitation du Jardin Expérimental et à la tradition locale de la phéniculture :<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
*l’étude et la diversification du patrimoine phénicicole<\/u><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n
Ces recherches concernent l’analyse génétique des palmiers, la mise en culture de graines de palmiers hybrides issues des exemplaires locaux, ou encore l’introduction de palmiers rares.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n
*la restauration du couvert forestier <\/u><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n
Une pépinière pilote a été créée sur le site, et une 40aine de palmiers âgés de 5 ans ont déjà été transplantés dans les jardins privés et sur le domaine public. La production de palmiers issus de graines locales est, depuis cette date, d‘une 50aine de spécimens\/an.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n
*les traditions locales de la palmiculture<\/u><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n
Le revival de la tradition de la palmiculture a connu ces dernières années un succès encourageant. La production de 2012 a ainsi été commercialisée en direction des églises orientales.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n

Avec les visites guidées gérées par diverses associations d’amateurs de botanique, le site de la palmeraie historique est désormais pleinement intégré aux réseaux touristiques et patrimoniaux des jardins de la Riviera.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n
*les réseaux d'oasis marginales<\/u><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n
La palmeraie de Bordighera a désormais sa place dans le cadre des collaborations Nord-Sud, autour des problématiques ecosystemiques et socio-culturelles communes qui font l’objet de plusieurs programmes de recherche.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n
*les réseaux de zones humides méditerranéennes<\/u><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n
 Les collaborations en cours visent à élargir la problématique phénicicole à la bio-diversité. La palmeraie de Bordighera occupe en effet l’embouchure d’un vallon méditerranéen d’une réelle richesse faunistique et floristique.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n
*la documentation historique et iconographique<\/u><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n
Ces investigations à caractère patrimonial sont menées en collaboration avec les Archives locales, les historiens et les collectionneurs, dans le cadre du Projet Bioarchive.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n

La tradition orientale des palmes rituelles <\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
Les cultures rituelles de palmiers, destinées aux liturgies juives et chrétiennes (Soukkhot et Dies Palmarum), concernent une grande partie du bassin méditerranéen. Les recherches menées dans le cadre du Projet Phoenix ont donné lieu en 2011, lors du colloque Sympada d’Alger, à une communication collective qui a permis de faire le point sur les traditions italiennes. Nos recherches se sont poursuivies l’an dernier en direction du Moyen-Orient et de l’Europe de l’Est, grâce à de nouvelles collaborations. Les premiers résultats viennent d’être mis en ligne sur le site web du Projet Phoenix. Ils dessinent les grandes lignes d’une tradition issue des monastères égyptiens, dans le contexte de rituels agraires communs à l’ensemble du monde indo-européen. Les monastères égyptiens ont ainsi joué un grand rôle dans la diffusion des palmes en Méditerranée, et par la suite dans la tradition chrétienne du Palm Sunday.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n

La premiazione ha lasciato spazi a conferenze, sulle palme e sulle varie piantagioni bordigotte, tanto apprezzate nel mondo già da metà ottocento, all'ingegner Giuseppe Bessone e a Carmen Etienne della "Cumpagnia d'a Parmura".<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

In NANFeatures\/Vol. 7\/No. 202\/2013 (June 2013). Mr Chukwuemeka Eke, a researcher in Nigeria Institute for Oil Palm Research (NIFOR), said that date palm cultivation was a potent way against desertification. NIFOR had be able to identify some date palm species which could mature within two years, as against the normal seven to 15 years. The National Centre for Genetic Resources and Biotechnology also said in a report that its research had revealed that date palm cultivation would be a panacea to desertification because of the plant’s ability to adapt to desert environment.
